Step 2. Verify Your ID

As a mail recipient, you must give your mail operator authorization to receive your mail.

Updated over a week ago

As a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA) following U.S. Postal Regulations, your mail operator must verify your identity before starting mail handling services, for any renter.

You will need:

  • A device with a camera, if possible, use a mobile device.

  • A valid government-issued photo ID document. Not a photocopy or a picture of an ID document. Ensure that the ID document is not expired.

  • If you cannot provide two identifications that include a photo, a manual process can be done with just one photo ID and a regular ID. Complete the photo ID verification through PilotoMail, then send your other document to your mail operator for upload.

How To Verify Your ID In PilotoMail

To follow the automated compliance process in PilotoMail, you will be prompted to scan your two photo IDs and sign the CMRA form electronically. Make sure to have your photo IDs handy and be ready to take a selfie.

Here are some useful tips:

  • Make sure that the images are not too dark or bright, and don't have a glare.

  • Hold steady and allow your camera to focus to avoid blurry photos.

  • Having a white (or solid color) background allows you to take a better lit photo.

  • Do not block any part of your ID document in the image. Ideally, you can lay it on a flat surface to take the photo.

  • Do not block any part of your face.

  • Remove sunglasses, masks, or other accessories that might cover your face.

To get started:

1️⃣ Scan your two photo IDs

  1. Open your virtual mailbox.

  2. Select Verify ID #1.

  3. If you already verified ID #1, select Verify ID #2.

  4. The system will prompt you to take a photo of your ID, front and back.

    1. Place the front of your ID in the rectangle to scan.

    2. Then, scan the back of your ID.

🎯 Troubleshooting: Having issues with the digital ID verification? Send your documents to your mail operator to upload manually.

2️⃣ Sign the CMRA form electronically.

  1. Select Sign & Confirm CMRA Form.

  2. Review your information (it has been auto-filled!) on the CMRA form and add your signature to the white box. Click Submit.
