User ID Verification For Compliance Process

Learn how to verify the identity of your renters using PilotoMail.

Updated over a week ago

To give an operator authority to accept mail on a renter's behalf, the mailbox's owner, managers, and recipients must verify their identity by uploading two IDs.

Who has to upload IDs in PilotoMail?

  • Every user, except pickup staff, must upload their IDs to verify their identity using our automated system powered by Stripe.

  • If the renter owns a mailbox or multiple mailboxes, they will have to upload their IDs once and sign and confirm a CMRA per each mailbox they own.

πŸ“Œ Note: When a recipient is added to a mailbox and accepts the invitation, the mailbox moves from compliant to pending. They will have to verify and confirm the changes in the CMRA for the mailbox to be compliant.

Why do we trust Stripe?

Stripe uses best-in-class security tools and practices to maintain a high level of security. Stripe has been audited by a PCI-certified auditor and is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1. This is the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry.

Before starting, here is what a user will need.

  • A device with a camera. If possible, use a mobile device.

  • A valid government-issued photo ID document. Not a photocopy or a picture of an ID document. Ensure that the ID document is not expired.

Accepted IDs:

  • Valid driver's license or state non-driver's identification card

  • Armed forces, government, university, or recognized corporate identification card

  • Passport, alien registration card, or certificate of naturalization

  • Current lease, mortgage, or Deed of Trust

  • Voter or vehicle registration card

  • Home or vehicle insurance policy.

πŸ“Œ Note: Social Security cards, credit cards, and birth certificates are unacceptable as identification.

πŸͺ„ Tips:

  • Make sure that the images are not too dark or bright and don't have a glare.

  • To avoid blurry photos, hold steady and allow your camera to focus.

  • Do not block any part of your ID document in the image. Ideally, lay it flat to take the photo.

  • Do not block any part of your face.

  • Remove sunglasses, masks, and other accessories.

  • Cameras on mobile devices typically take higher-quality photos than a webcam.

How to upload IDs

Our verification flow will ask for 2 photo IDs and a selfie from the user.

  1. Select Click here to verify ID #1.

  2. Click Verify ID #1.

  3. Follow the prompts to take a photo of your ID, front and back, and a selfie.

  4. After you verify ID #1, select Click here to verify ID #1 and follow steps 2 and 3.

πŸ“Œ Note: Our automated ID Verification Process can only be completed with IDs that include a picture of the renter. If the renter cannot provide two IDs with their photograph, a manual process can be done with just one ID. The renter can send you the second document for you to upload.
